Rally Design were the pioneers of producing 'bolt-on' performance braking kits to suit production uprights and have to date sold over 60,000 calipers into aftermarket applications. We are continuously feeding back customer comments to Wilwood USA to improve the product, whilst also maintaining a very competitive price structure, the latest Midilite 4-pot caliper must be the best value for money roadsport caliper currently available. Customers inevitably ask similar questions, please could we ask that you consider the following before contemplating the purchase of any brake kit.1. Most modern vehicles utilise 'sliding piston' carrier single pot calipers which have only a pad/abutment outboard of the disc, this gives a very tight accommodation package for the vehicle manufacture but inevitably limits the room available for the outboard pistons on a 2-pot or 4-pot caliper. Therefore it is very important to consider the purchase of a braking kit and aftermarket replacement wheels at the same time - it may be useful to cut a full size cardboard template as per the adjacent switch utilising the A-E dimensions pertaining to your chosen brakes kit and offer up this template inside your section of wheels.2. Consider carefully the brakes kit that is suitable for your application - the current range of hatchbacks are ideally suited to 285mm or 310mm discs, with a lightweight 4-pot caliper. Monster 355mm discs with big 6-pot calipers and giant brake pads will only work satisfactorily if you can heat the pads to working temperature and the resultant unsprung weight can adversely affect the car's handling - be sensible in your choice, big is not always best! 3. It is often complex to change the vehicle's master cylinder and certainly a stock system will only accept a modest increase in piston size (say 20%) before 'long pedal' problems arise - measure your existing stock caliper piston diameter and using the formula pi r2 (3.142 x radius2) it is possible to calculate the area. Remember that a single pot sliding piston carrier caliper must be considered as a 2-piston. If the maths are a problem, advise us of your existing piston diameter and we will gladly recommend a possible 4-pot replacement.4. The subject of dust sealing is controversial. The latest Midilite is fully dust sealed but really we had no piston seizing problems with older calipers and in a race environment the dust seals can be a real nuisance and easily subject to heat damage and deterioration.5. Fitting a performance brakes kit is a task best undertaken by an experienced mechanic. We strongly recommend that unless you can honestly say that you have the necessary knowledge, do not attempt to fit the kit yourself - your life and the lives of others may depend on the kit being carefully installed.
